Low Speed Handpiece Repair

There are inevitably problems with the low speed handpieces used by dentists in dental offices and hospitals, and below I've listed some common problems and solutions to them:

①The motor does not rotate and has no power.

Possible causes of failure:

Ⅰ. The air source is unclean and dirt causes the rotor to get stuck. Poor lubrication, damaged or rusted bearings.

Ⅱ. The reversing ring is in the middle position and no air is supplied.

Ⅲ. The rear screw is loose and the rear seal is not tight.

Solution:

Ⅰ. Disassemble the front intubation tube, use a special wrench to unscrew the pressing ring, and take out the front bearing seat and rotor assembly. Clean the dirt or replace the bearing, and add oil and lubricate after cleaning.

Ⅱ. Turn the reversing ring to the maximum position.

Ⅲ. Remove the screws of the back cover, open the back cover, and tighten the screws.

②When the straight handpiece is connected to the motor, the straight machine does not rotate.

Possible causes of failure:

Ⅰ. After the straight machine clamps the bur needle, the rotating sleeve is not screwed in place and the bur needle is not firmly held.

Ⅱ. Poor lubrication, damaged or rusted shaft clamp or bearing;

Solution:

Ⅰ. Rotate the rotating sleeve to lock the needle.

Ⅱ. If the straight handpiece shaft clamp is rusty, heat it with an alcohol lamp, unscrew the tail sleeve and take out the intermediate transmission shaft, clamp the shaft with a special tool, and take out the needle, push sleeve and main spring in sequence. Then use a special tool for riveting pins to remove the coupling and replace the shaft clamp or bearing.

③The straight handpiece needle cannot be taken out, the rotation is not flexible, and there is abnormal noise during operation.

Possible causes of failure:

Insufficient lubrication and rust on internal parts (shaft clamp, steel balls, bearings).

Solution:

Replace rusty parts.

④The contra angle handpiece slips and does not turn during operation.

Possible causes of failure:

Ⅰ. The transmission gear is worn or damaged.

Ⅱ. The bearing is damaged.

Solution:

Replace damaged parts or bearings.
